She was taken home to her parent's home and raised there. Shikyo is the middle child. Her big brother Kaori is almost always home, her little brother Niji is always outside, only coming in during dinner and bedtime, and her little sister Koukou is nearly always beside mother. Her father was killed in a FBI gunfight and she has lived alone with her mother ever since that incident when she was 6. As she went though school, the kids liked her less and soon everyone hated her except for her best friend, Kyouga. She got the notedbook when she picked it up from the branches of a dead tree, Then she saw and met Muyukia, who she thought was a boy. Muyukia is really a flat-chested girl. She decided she would use the notebooks power to rid the world of people she really doesn't like. Starting with her neglectful mother.
